The 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix S510 was, at the time of launch, Nikon's smallest compact to feature Vibration Reduction optical image stabilisation.
Nikon Coolpix S510 Review
Rapid Response
The S510’s main shouting points are its size and optical image stabilisation, and with an Expeed processing engine in the driving seat, the camera also boasts ISO 2000 capabilities and the ‘world’s fastest response among competing 8MP models with optical image stabilisation’.
Performance
Encasing all this is a brush-finished stainless steel body with the rear playing host to a 2.5in LCD screen and control wheel, the latter speeding up navigating menus and images. Start-up and focusing times are indeed prompt, though the latter’s hastiness can sometimes struggle to lock onto a subject.
Image Quality
Images in general are very impressive. Edge-sharpness is superbly controlled, with corner sharpness faring only marginally worse, while the overall level of detail and absence of fringing produce clean and punchy images.
Verdict
Great images, lens-based VR and stylish design, with only minor niggles
